Thane school trustee beats up 20 students with rod; five in hospital with fractures, injuries: Parents

The music they were playing was loud, which disturbed the trustee, who then barged in to the room with a fibre rod, and started beating children, said a police offical.

Parents of 18 children registered a complaint against a woman trustee of a private school in Thane on Thursday, for allegedly assaulting the students with a fibre rod.

The trustee has been booked under section 324 of the IPC.

According to the police, around 20 students from Classes 7 to 10 were practising for the annual function on the school premises on Wednesday.

“Children were rehearsing for the dance competition. The music they were playing was loud, which disturbed the trustee. She barged in to the room with a fibre rod, and started beating children,” said a police officer.

One of the parents said: “More than 20 children were beaten by the trustee. Among the injured, five have been admitted to Thane Civil Hospital. One of them has suffered a head injury. Three others have suffered fractures on the spine and arm.”

M Dharmadhikari, senior police inspector from Thanenagar police station, said, “After a group of parents came to the police station, we sent the children to Thane civil hospital for medical tests. After the medical report was submitted, we took statements of the parents and children, and a case was registered against the trustee.”
