On November 29 it was announced that financing had been secured to complete the Jeddah (or Freedom) Tower, which was slated to become the world’s tallest building. The skyscraper—which will overlook the Red Sea in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia—was scheduled to reach a kilometer, or 3,280 feet, in height when finished in 2020. That would top the current record holder, Burj Khalifa in nearby Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which stands 828 meters (2,717 feet) high. So far, 26 of the Jeddah Tower’s projected 200 floors have been completed. The multiuse skyscraper is planned to include apartments, offices, and a hotel.
