Some students in AP may go for National Technical Institutions as per their ranks.
Kakinada: In the absence of a second counselling, engineering students are in a quandary. They are waiting for long to get their options in the second counselling. In the meanwhile, classes have begun, and they are in a dilemma whether to attend the classes or not.
According to sources, the government conducted the AP Eamcet examinations and announced the results earlier this time, than was the case with previous years, with a view to helping private engineering colleges in the state by way of preventing student migrations to colleges elsewhere.
But, the JEE ranks have been delayed and the counselling for prominent national institutes like IIT, IIITs and others has not been completed. Some students in AP may go for National Technical Institutions as per their ranks. Then, the seats in university colleges and prominent colleges will remain vacant.
Parents say the government should have postponed the commencement of classes so as to give opportunities to other rankers to opt for better colleges, until completion of IIT, IIIT and other institutions’ counselling. Last year, University College of Engineering in Kakinada lost nearly 20 seats of each branch due to the early start of classes, as students left the colleges to join the national institutes.
