From the small town of Anantapur where she grew up, to the glamourous world of Tollywood, Priyanka Jawalkar has had quite a dream run already. All set to make her debut with reigning heartthrob Vijay Deverakonda’s next — a supernatural comic thriller directed by Rahul Sankrityan — the NIFT graduate is super excited. “I had to audition multiple times for almost three months before the makers finally decided to cast me. So, I’m very excited about it ‘cos becoming a Tollywood heroine is like a dream come true,”she says.
Prod her about the role she plays in the film and Priyanka says, “The film revolves around a cab, a cabbie and an experiment that goes wrong. I play the female lead Anu, a doctor, who is a happy go lucky, bubbly girl.”
Letting us in on her onscreen love story with Vijay, she adds, “So Vijay plays a cab driver, Shiva, and on one of his rides, he happens to meet me. After the first meeting, we continue meeting further and gradually become friends. The journey of our relationship starts, but what happens later is something you will have to watch on screen.”
Apparently, Priyanka who did engineering in Computer Science from Anantapur and later, Fashion Clothing and Technology from Hyderabad, has styled for herself in the film. “before we started shooting for the film, I had quite a few meetings with the makers. they liked my dress sense so much that they asked me to style myself in the film. you’ll see me sporting casuals, jeans, kurtis and churidhars,” reveals Priyanka, who’s just finished shooting for the film.
Besides styling herself, she is dubbing for herself as well. “Though I’m a Maharastrian, my family has been living in Anantapur for years now. my parents grew up there. I can read, write and speak Telugu. In fact, I did a couple of short films as well in Telugu. So, dubbing for myself was no big deal,” she reveals.
Talking about her co-star Vijay, Priyanka says, “He’s such a natural actor. He gave me tips that boosted my confidence. It was an amazing experience to be working with him. Even though I was a rookie on the set, the team took excellent care of me and made me feel at home,” she signs off.
